Besides the General English course which is compulsory for all students (B.A.; B.Com.I & II; B.Sc.I), the department offers subjects like Supplementary English (B.A. ; B.Com.I & II ; B.Sc.I)and electives like English Literature and Communicative English for B.A. students. The Communicative English Course imparts training to the undergraduates in various skills of communication.
The department also offers a post graduate course (M A) in English.

The faculty of English is engaged in quality research work that covers a wide range of language and litearture specific areas as well as inter-disciplinary fields. The attempt is to keep abreast with the latest trends and movements in Culture Studies, Literary Theory, Translation Work and English Language Learning and Teaching. A number of research scholars are also pursuing their doctoral theses under the supervision of Ph.D guides from the dept.

The literary association of the department called Hislop English Literary Society (HELS) offers diverse opportunities to the students to discover and develop their talents and exercise their communication skills. The society regularly undertakes the following activities for its students:
