The College, way back in 1980, spawed at NGO christened Hislop Institute of Social Action and Research (HISAR) which today runs basic schools in slum areas. HISAR has especially adopted the slum at Pandrabodi, Sudam Nagar and Jai Nagar, and runs Balwadis (school of children) in these slums. Full- fledged teachers residing in the same area have been appointed and the children are given basic education so that they can join the main stream education programmes later in their life.

To the housewives in these slums, vocational training in sewing , knitting, embroidery, and cooking is given so that they can find petty employment and improve the economic conditions of their homes.

Recently, the World funded a project named “Kshitij” to be carried of by HISAR. Under this project the college will work with the children ragpickers of the Bhandewadi dump yard and provide them non-formal education, medical check-up, hygiene, one nutritious meal per day and recreation facility.

It must be noted that the sociology department is involved in this work through HISAR.
