Three year course comprising theory and lab work in basics of zoology encompassing Chordates, Non-chordates, Environmental Biology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Micro technique and Entomology.

Taught Programmes

M. Sc. Degree Courses- Two years masters’ degree course with specialization in Entomology in the second year. The course consists of the following four papers along with two practical and seminar presentations each year.
First year- i) Animal Structure and Function
ii) General Physiology and Endsocrinology
iii) Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
iv) Gamete and Developmental Bilolgy
Second year- i) Parasitology and Immunology
ii) Biotechniques, Quantitative Biology and Ethology
iii) Entomology-I- Insect Morphology and Physiology
iv) Entomology II- Insect Classification and Applied Entomology

Departmental Programmes


The post graduate department of Zoology carries out several programmes


I) Annual Programmes : Poster presentation, Students seminar, , Field trips, Collection trips, Visit to biological centers, etc.
II) Academic Activities: The students work on small projects and their results are presented at various state level /national academic symposia/conferences. Till Date 23 Students have presented their Papers at various International & National Conferences.
II) Guest Lectures: The department regularly organizes guest lectures of several prominent academicians in the field of animal science ,wild life specialists and officers from the forest department, Scientist from Zoological survey of India & Research Centres.
III) Organization: The department regularly organizes State , National and International level Symposia/, Conferences/ Workshops etc. In the last 4 years it has organised 1 South Asian, 1 International, 1 National & 1 State Level Symbosia / Workshop.
IV) A Twinning Programme is arranged for the students - A special 90 hours Bioinformatic certificate Course is Launced in collabration with "GROWLINK CENTRE OF BIOINFORMATICS, PUNE" to train the students in animal Bioinformatics.

Results :

  • Session 2006-2008 : Cent Percent result, 90% scored 1st division & Mr. RAHUL CHOUBEY stood first in Merrit & recieved 3 Gold Medals
  • Session 2007-2009 : Cent Percent result, all studens scored 1st division.
Research


The staff is actively engaged in research in the field of insect Endocrinology, Reproduction, Odonatology, Ootaxonomy, Biodiversity, Toxicology and Behavioral sciences. Many research papers are published and many research findings are presented at various national and international symposium/conferences.
In the last 5 Years, the staff have published 6 International & 12 National Reasearch Papers, and Authored 6 Books. The staff have guided 5 Ph.D students & 2 have submitted their Doctoral Thesis. Till date the total research publications of the staff crosses the century mark, and have attented more then 10 International Conferences abroad.
The department is the nodal office of the “South Asian Council of Odonatology” which caters to the academic needs and forms a network of all the Odonatologist (workers studying the insect-dragonflies and damselflies) of India, Pakistan, Bangla desh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Their research journal “Fraseria” is published from this department.
